If John Poynton is right, sun-scorched paddocks in the middle of Western Australia could become home to a new kind of shed: high-tech data centres offering computing power to cities throughout Asia.

The Perth businessman says the Mid West region is ripe for harvesting sun and wind that could supply the power to the notoriously energy-hungry data centres.
