IGO ‘confident’ in new CEO Vella after Rio dismissal
The board of home-grown lithium and nickel producer IGO is standing by its decision to appoint Ivan Vella as CEO after investigating the circumstances that led Rio Tinto to sack him a fortnight ago.
Rio Tinto dismissed Mr Vella, the former head of its aluminium division on November 15, because of his “failure” to properly manage confidential information, the company said.
This article has been amended to clarify that Mr Vella did not fail to keep confidential information secret, only that he failed to properly manage confidential information.
