Google revealed its war plan against Australia's competition watchdog last week, turning to its playbook of corralling its massive user base to pressure politicians and industry into backing down on a new code forcing it to negotiate with local media organisations to pay for journalism on its platforms.
The draft code, for which consultation finishes on Friday, is being developed by the Australian competition regulator to cover an array of services – but not all – offered by Google, and Facebook. Facebook has been eerily silent on the code. The Australian Financial Review is owned by Nine, which along with News Corp, has been a major proponent of regulating the tech giants.
