Tabcorp’s former CEO says betting ads have gone too far

The former chief executive of one of Australia’s largest wagering companies has thrown his support behind deep restrictions on sports betting advertising, saying there is no choice but to ban all social media ads.

Elmer Funke Kupper led ASX-listed Tabcorp for four years between 2007 and 2011. He says he has watched the highly competitive wagering sector radically transform into one with immense reach into all sports, ages and demographics. He recently created an account on video platform TikTok as an experiment – and found sports betting posts within minutes.
