Australia’s free-to-air television broadcasters have won two battles against the streaming giants, securing preferential treatment for their apps on smart televisions and in bidding wars for major cultural and sports events.

Communications Minister Michelle Rowland will introduce a bill to parliament this week that will ensure apps such as ABC iview and 7plus appear before international services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video on smart televisions.
