Engineers are calling on Victoria to run a competitive bidding process for $50 million of work to remotely monitor bridges for cracks after the job went to a government-backed joint venture with US photocopier maker Xerox.
The Victorian government announced on May 10 that it would invest $50 million to put “new technology” on bridges across the state through a company named Eloque, following trials between state rail agency VicTrack and the US photocopier maker Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Centre (PARC), which is headquartered in California.
