Brad Welsh’s journey from childhood protection worker in Sydney’s inner west to the boardroom table at health insurer NIB has taken him all over the country.

One of Australia’s few Indigenous and youngest company directors at 44, Welsh grew up in Redfern where he worked before becoming a political staffer for then prime minister Kevin Rudd and then NSW premier Kristina Keneally.
