TV ad ban but not jerseys and field signs is ‘illogical’: bookies

Three of Australia’s biggest betting firms have called for a ban on wagering logos appearing on jerseys and signs around fields in live sport, conceding they make no sense alongside a blanket blackout on TV advertising.

Sportsbet, Pointsbet and Entain, which owns the Neds and Ladbrokes brands, said the decision by the government to exclude logos and signs from a crackdown on gambling advertising is “obviously illogical”. It was the first time Sportsbet, the largest online gambling firm and the sector’s biggest advertiser, publicly backed a ban.
