National Australia Bank chairman Philip Chronican said the outbreak of coronavirus on Sydney’s northern beaches points to the volatility of the pandemic but he remains optimistic the economic recovery will continue.

“It is a year that saw businesses upended and economies shattered”, he told the virtual annual general meeting on Friday morning. “In the last 24 hours, we have seen in Sydney how quickly the situation can change.”
