Bendigo and Adelaide Bank has appointed Richard Fennell as chief executive, succeeding Marnie Baker in the task of mounting a credible challenge to the big four’s stranglehold.

Analysts expect a smooth transition; Mr Fennell has been chief customer officer for Bendigo’s consumer bank since 2018, having joined the regional lender in 2007.
