How ‘rain bomb’ vexed insurance models: Suncorp

The “rain bomb” of flash flooding and intense downpours across eastern Australia has proven an especially tough disaster for insurers such as Suncorp to predict.

The 15 straight days of disaster are different to a normal river flood and so incorporate harder to anticipate wildcards for modelling, such as if roads have not been properly built to allow rainwater to drain.
