South-east Queensland was on high alert last night, with heavy rain causing flash flooding which killed six people, shut down the public transport system and took out wastewater treatment plants in Brisbane.

Businesses and more than 100 schools have been shut across south-east Queensland, which is home to more than 3.8 million people.
