National Australia Bank is lending more for housing and business than the average of its major bank rivals, after working out how to approve mortgage applications quickly and deepening relationships with key business customers.

NAB, the favourite major bank for sector analysts, delivered a clean full-year result and while it pointed to margin pressures from intense competition in housing lending, it also showed the benefits of its program to simplify products and processes.
