In the pantheon of well-known Australians who have made Britain their home – Cate Blanchett, Nick Cave, Germaine Greer, Lynton Crosby, Lex Greensill and so on – the name Craig Wright probably doesn’t ring the same kind of bell.

But his claimed alter ego might sound the chime: Satoshi Nakamoto. Anyone who knocks around tech or cryptocurrencies will have heard of the mysterious, anonymous author of the 2008 “white paper” that served as midwife to bitcoin.
