‘We wouldn’t do it for a coal mine’: Libs back Plibersek in wind fight

The federal opposition has thrown its support behind Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek’s move to block a project central to Victoria’s offshore wind industry on environment grounds, warning the state Labor government not to “trash the planet on the way to saving it”.

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan on Tuesday said the federal government’s veto of the proposed Port of Hastings wind energy hub due to unacceptable damage to wetlands – which stunned the industry – was “incredibly frustrating and disappointing” but that the state government remained “undeterred”.
