National Farmers Federation president Fiona Simson says the industry's capacity to thrive and spearhead Australia's economic recovery from COVID-19 does not hinge on patching up relations with China.

Ms Simson said the Morrison government was right to stand its ground with China even if it came at a cost to farmers, as she broke her silence on recent trade sanctions.
