Contradictory forces are buffeting Australia’s housing market, from a slowing economy and poor supply to immigration. But will the lagged effects of rate rises prove all-powerful?
An economist, a lender and an investor walked into a property summit – and left everyone confused about where the heck the housing market is going next.
So it was on day two of The Australian Financial Review Property Summit in Sydney on Tuesday. Mark Bouris, the executive chairman of non-bank lender Yellow Brick Road, sees prices falling as the economy slows and unemployment ticks higher in the year to come.
