King says Platinum ripe for bid
Platinum Asset Management, the funds manager that brought international investing to the masses, looks vulnerable after Regal disclosed a substantial shareholding.
Phil King, the aggressive equities market player behind Regal Funds Management, looks to be trying to engineer a takeover of Platinum Asset Management without bidding himself.
King, who on Tuesday disclosed a 5.5 per cent stake in Platinum, says he will not be making a bid for Platinum. But he would not be surprised if the $1 billion asset management company loses its independence.
