Solomon Lew has made plenty of good decisions in his career, but backing Jim Clayton to become chief executive of Breville Group nine years ago is surely right up there.

Clayton, who was rewarded on Wednesday with a new contract that will extend his tenure to at least August 2027 and probably well beyond, has helped lift Breville’s market value by 360 per cent since taking the reins in July 2015.
