Grocery facts don’t support the rip-off narrative
Food prices are up 18 per cent in Australia since the pandemic. It sounds like a lot, but is less than most other major countries.
The big supermarket owners are far from perfect. But if it is rising prices that the government’s food and grocery review is trying to fix, it may well prove a waste of time.
Because while grocery prices are up strongly in Australia since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the increases are materially less than other major markets, including the United States, UK and New Zealand.
