Elliott’s bonus hit shows how grumpy ANZ investors really are
Local fund managers are clearly unhappy with the board’s approach to risk management. Shayne Elliott is wearing a lot of their grief.
When ANZ chairman Paul O’Sullivan was growing up in Ireland, he lived in the only house for miles around that had a telephone. As such, he became very good at scribbling down messages for his neighbours.
On Thursday, as O’Sullivan fronted the bank’s annual meeting in Melbourne, he was forced back into message-taking mode – and the feedback from investors was not friendly.
