Don Meij delivered, then divided. Domino’s is now a puzzle with the lot

Whatever you think of the polarising chief executive, there’s no doubt he’s hanging up his pizza slicer at an extremely tricky time for the former darling.

Few figures in Australia’s corporate sector are as polarising as Don Meij, who announced on Tuesday that he will retire from Domino’s Pizza after a staggering 40 years with the Australian pizza giant, including 22 as chief executive.

For his champions, Meij is the genius who listed Domino’s in 2005 with a market capitalisation of just $135 million and grew that 23-fold over the next 19 years to $3.1 billion through a series of audacious global bets, from Japan to France.
