The victims of a former McDonald’s manager who indecently filmed them in their own homes have finally had their say after a lengthy court case – but will need to wait another week for his sentence.

On Thursday, Jayden Guy, 26, appeared in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court before Magistrate Edward Stratton-Smith after pleading guilty to six counts of indecently filming a person over 17, and one count of indecently filming a person under 17.

During sentencing submissions, five of the victims of Guy’s offending read their victim impact statements to the court, and three were read out by the police prosecutor.

One victim told the court she felt “everywhere was a risk of being taken advantage of” and spoke of Guy’s “betrayal” “

“After this incident, my self-confidence was destroyed … I constantly doubted my worthiness because of his acts,” she told the court.

“The amount of guilt I have for your actions is overwhelming, I blame myself everyday.

“I feel trapped in my emotions because I feel like it’s all my fault, but it’s not, it’s yours.”

Guy, who lives in Salisbury Heights, previously pleaded guilty to filming former co-workers and friends at various location via hidden cameras, including inside the Para Hills McDonalds.

He engaged in the indecent filming 20-month period across 2019 and 2020, according to a charge sheet lodged with the court.

In April 2022, the court heard Guy was accused of being caught with an internet-enabled phone while on home detention, and that he falsified documents to have a working with children prohibition stemming from the charges revoked.

It was revealed those falsifications happened in pursuit of a job with Timezone at Tea Tree Plaza.

Another victim said she lived in a constant state of “fear” and no longer felt safe to shower in her own home “which was supposed to be a normal everyday task”.

“I didn’t feel safe enough to shower without bathers on. I felt that I needed to wear them to know I was safe and I couldn’t be taken advantage of again,” she said.

Many of the victims expressed their “disappointment” Guy has been able to live a “relatively normal life” while they have had to spend three years “waiting for justice”.

Another told the court the victims had the chance to “repair” their lives and “it is only fair yours is now ruined forever”.

The court previously heard police officers had found “overwhelming” evidence of indecent filming involving nine victims, including a McDonald’s staffer.

Videos showed the victims engaged in “private acts”, including showering, changing and other intimate acts, the court heard.

He also filmed staff in the McDonald’s changing room.

Counsel for Guy said his client had lost employment following his charges becoming “public knowledge” which resulted in a “significant period of reflection” as he referred to an apology written to his victims.

“No words I can ever say undo any damage or pain I have caused. I understand that and accept any anger you all rightfully hold towards me,” his lawyer read.

“Mr Guy assures your Honour, and everyone else in this room that he did not distribute the material to anybody else.”

Mr Stratton-Smith told the court he “was very sorry” but needed time to consider a sentence, and adjourned Guy on continuing bail until later this month.
