A northern suburbs McDonald’s manager – and former triple-0 call worker – allegedly filmed an almost naked female staffer in a changeroom, leaving her “scared and embarrassed”, a court has heard.

Jayden Guy, 23, of Salisbury Heights, is charged with 35 counts of indecently filming a person over the age of 17 and one count of a person under 17.

However, Mr Guy applied for home detention bail in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Wednesday after he was arrested on fresh charges last month.

Guy’s lawyer, Mr Cole, said his client had spent 18 days in prison after being charged with dishonestly dealing with documents on November 17 this year, and breach of bond.

At a bail hearing on Wednesday, the court heard Guy was also caught on CCTV allegedly taking the mobile phones of McDonald’s staff workers during their shifts and making his own secret recordings.

Magistrate Yoong Fee Chin told the court the charges had a “sinister flavour”.

Earlier, police prosecutor Brevet Sergeant Jen Switala said some of the 36 counts related to Guy’s work as a Para Hills McDonald’s manager.

The court heard an alleged 15-year-old victim was dressed up in a costume on McHappy Day in November, 2019.

However, around 5pm, the shoulder strap of her costume broke and she went into a cramped staffroom to change.

Just prior to entering the room, Guy allegedly exited saying it was “clear”, having been in there for approximately five to 10 minutes.

Sgt Switala said after the alleged victim changed down “to her knickers only”, she noticed a recording mobile phone pointed in her direction, leaning against a crate and “mostly covered” by a black jumper.

“It wasn’t able to miss anything happening in that room,” Sgt Switala said.

“She viewed the recording and it showed herself in a state of undress.”

Sgt Switala said the victim recalled seeing three recordings, with the first allegedly showing Guy “putting the phone in the position in which she found it”.

“He can be clearly seen walking away from the camera, looking back,” she said.

“She could hear the conversation she had with him prior to her entering the changeroom.”

However, following a conversation with Guy, he allegedly denied the allegation then requested it be kept “private and between themselves”, leaving her “scared and embarrassed”.

Sgt Switala said police officers later seized his phone which revealed “overwhelming” evidence of indecent filming, between February 19, 2019 and October 6, 2020, involving nine victims, including the McDonald’s staffer.

Videos showed the victims engaged in “private acts”, including showering, changing, masturbating and engaging in “consensual private sexual acts”, the court heard.

Guy allegedly set up cameras to record the private acts in rooms before re-entering the room to stop the recordings, she said.

He is also accused of falsifying a court record in an attempt to get a job as a manager at Timezone at Tea Tree Plaza.

Guy is not permitted to engage in child-related work under the terms of a bail agreement.

Describing Guy as a “high risk to the community”, Sgt Switala objected to any forms of bail except home detention.

However, for the accused, Mr Cole said his client had a “strong” employment record, having worked as a triple-0 phone operator and gym manager with “no criminal history whatsoever”.

He argued his client had already served “unwarranted” time in prison and home detention bail was appropriate.

Guy will appear for a home detention inquiry report later this month.
