A million-dollar, competition-level skate park designed for all skill levels is coming to Aldinga Sports Park.
The new park will include a beginners’ ramp, greenery, viewing platform and shelter, offering a contemporary facility while giving riders a unique skating experience, Onkaparinga Council said
“Aldinga should develop as a point of difference facility which will offer local riders from Aldinga and the wider region a unique experience,” a report said.
Mayor Moira Were said the park would be suitable for all ages, designed with various different demographics in mind.
“With a beginner mini ramp, an intermediate dish and an advanced bowl, it’s suitable for those from beginner to advanced,” she said.
“It has also been designed with spectators, families, safety, events and competitions in mind, including benches, a central shelter, tree planting and irrigated turf.
“We’re grateful for the state government’s $1.3 million grant with the support of Leon Bignell, Member for Mawson, and we’re pleased to see another element of our wider Aldinga Sports Park Master Plan redevelopment starting to take shape.”
In December last year, council asked what the Onkaparinga community would like to see in the new skatepark and with the input they received, a draft concept plan was design by CONVIC.
The project also include lights, turf for seating and viewing, trees, footpaths and an unsealed car park.
Construction is expected to begin in August of this year and is due to be completed and open to the public by December.
Council is now seeking community consultation, which is open until April 15.
