A woman accused of hitting a man with her car and leaving him for dead on the road has told a court she is not responsible for his death.
Alicia Barbara Frances Pickett was silent in the dock at the Adelaide Magistrates Court as her lawyer pleaded not guilty to one count each of aggravated driving without due care and leaving the scene of an accident.
Police allege that Ms Pickett was behind the wheel of her Holden station wagon when she collided with 32-year-old father Zack Hunt on Johnston Rd, Elizabeth Downs at about 1am on August 30.
In documents released to The Advertiser by the Elizabeth Magistrates Court, police allege Ms Pickett had been caught on several CCTV cameras driving erratically and, at times, on the wrong side of the road leading up to the incident.
Footage supplied to SA Police by one witness allegedly shows Ms Pickett’s orange VT Holden Commodore station wagon “cutting corners,” driving at a “speed which appeared to be faster than the 50 km/ph speed limit”, and “driving on the wrong side of the road, then veering to the correct side to avoid two parked cars.”
Paramedics attended the scene, and Mr Hunt was “declared life extinct at about 2.20am.”
Police allege that at 4.20am that morning, Ms Pickett then presented herself to the Elizabeth Police Station and notified them that she was the driver involved in the incident, the court documents stated.
Peter Caruso, for Ms Pickett, on Wednesday told magistrate Simon Smart his client conceded there was a case to answer.
Ms Pickett will return to court in August to set a date for trial.
