A woman accused of hitting a man with her car and leaving him for dead on the road had been filmed driving on the wrong side of the road in the lead up to the accident, court documents allege.

On Monday, Alicia Barbara Frances Pickett appeared in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court charged over the alleged hit and run death of Zackahrie Beau Hunt in August.

She has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, leaving an accident scene after causing death and driving without due care.

Police allege that Ms Pickett was behind the wheel of her Holden station wagon when she collided with 32-year-old father Zack Hunt on Johnston Rd, Elizabeth Downs at about 1am on August 30.

In documents released to The Advertiser by the Elizabeth Magistrates Court, police allege Ms Pickett had been caught on several CCTV cameras driving erratically and, at times, on the wrong side of the road leading up to the incident.

Footage supplied to SA Police by one witness allegedly shows Ms Pickett’s orange VT Holden Commodore station wagon “cutting corners,” driving at a “speed which appeared to be faster than the 50 km/ph speed limit”, and “driving on the wrong side of the road, then veering to the correct side to avoid two parked cars.”

“(The car) did not stop or even appear to slow down at any point,” one witness said in their statement to police.

Police allege that one witness’ CCTV footage shows Mr Hunt walking around erratically on the road at about 12.45am.

They further allege at about 15 minutes later, the footage shows headlights of a car that appear to be heading towards “a person who is lying on the road.”

“At about 12.57am, the headlights of a southbound car illuminated the victim lying across the road,” the documents allege.

“About two to three seconds later, the southbound car, a station wagon, runs over the top of the victim. The car continued without slowing or applying the brakes.”

The footage then shows people in the area running towards Mr Hunt, and the car taking off.

“The accused did not stop to render assistance to the victim and did not present to police within 90 minutes,” police allege.

Paramedics attended the scene, and Mr Hunt was “declared life extinct at about 2.20am.”

Police allege that at 4.20am that morning, Ms Pickett then presented herself to the Elizabeth Police Station and notified them that she was the driver involved in the incident, the court documents stated.

“The accused stated she had been driving in Elizabeth Downs and believed she may have run over a person lying in the middle of the road. She was visibly distressed,” police allege.

She was then “alco-tested” and taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital for further blood tests.

Police prosecutors on Monday asked the court for a five month adjournment to finalise their toxicology reports.

“Five months seem quite long,” magistrate Joanna Martin said.

“I’ve seen the facts of charge, and although toxicology may be of some relevance, it’s not necessarily relevant as to determining the charge. I don’t think it needs to be that much time.”

Ms Pickett will return to court again in January.

Outside court, members of the alleged victim’s family could be heard shouting at Ms Pickett’s supporters.
