A young South Australian man accused of killing another young man in a Victorian apartment earlier this year will fly to Melbourne to face the charges, a court has heard.

On Wednesday afternoon, Seaview Downs man Quinn McPherson, 20, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court charged with manslaughter after the interstate incident.

Victoria Police allege Mr McPherson had been wrestling with a Darlington man, also 20, at an apartment on Latrobe Street in Melbourne about 9am on May 13 when the second man lost consciousness.

Emergency services attended the apartment but the second man passed away at the scene.

Magistrate Brian Nitschke heard SA Police prosecutors were not opposed to granting Mr McPherson bail to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court next Monday.

“He’s been co-operating with Victoria Police, so they aren’t looking to extradite him,” a police prosecutor said.

Mr Nitschke granted Mr McPherson bail in the sum of $1000, with conditions he attend his scheduled court date in Melbourne next week.

He has also been ordered to surrender his passport and must continue to reside at his Seaview Downs address.

Mr McPherson was quiet during the hearing, with members of his family filling the gallery in support.

He will fly to Melbourne on Sunday ahead of his hearing on Monday morning.

Victoria Police said two other 20-year-old South Australian men were at the apartment at the time of the incident, but were not physically involved.
