A convicted killer has been slammed by a magistrate for involving himself in further retributive violence only months after finishing parole.

Andrew James Goulding, 49, was given a final chance to change after he instigated the violent brawl between warring groups, which sparked a wild car chase and shootout.

Goulding’s partner, Donna Sell, 37, Christopher Ikin, 38, Ronald Kirkbright, 40, Zachary John Gartside, 25, Jared Edward Ferdinands, 27, and Brooke Louise Doran, 39, are also accused of being involved.

During sentencing on Thursday, the Adelaide Magistrates Court heard police were called to Mr Kirkbright’s Elizabeth Vale house on January 21, last year after nearby residents reported an altercation.

“You entered the property and you damaged a car … you used a baseball bat to smash two of the windows on that vehicle,” Magistrate John Fahey said.

The court heard Goulding, who was with four others, challenged those inside to come out, which they did.

Goulding was struck with a pole in the “tit for tat” ensuing brawl, which broke his arm.

“The attacks and reprisals continued for some considerable time but you played no further part,” Mr Fahey said.

Some of the group are believed to have reattended the property 20 minutes after they left, where Sell was allegedly seen on CCTV firing a shotgun into Mr Kirkbright’s garage door.

This was allegedly followed by a shootout between cars on heavily populated Main North Rd.

Goulding, a Smithfield father-of-two, pleaded guilty to property damage and affray.

Ms Sell, of Smithfield, pleaded not guilty to affray, discharging a firearm and possessing a firearm.

Mr Kirkbright, of Elizabeth Vale, and Mr Ferdinands, of Elizabeth Grove, pleaded not guilty to property damage and discharging a firearm, while Mr Kirkbright also pleaded not guilty to driving dangerously and Mr Ferdinands pleaded not guilty to possessing an explosive device.

Ms Doran, of Hillbank, pleaded not guilty to affray.

Ikin, of St Agnes, pleaded guilty to property damage, affray, and driving dangerously, which he was sentenced to 10 months jail for in December.

Gartside, of Hillbank, pleaded guilty to affray and possessing and discharging a firearm.

The court heard Goulding was convicted of a “grizzly and violent” manslaughter in 2006, where he bashed a man senseless over a failed drug deal and left him to die on the side of the road.

Mr Fahey said the offending was similar to the manslaughter and was committed only five months after finishing parole.

“It’s concerning to me Mr Goulding that after spending 12 years in custody and another three years on parole you were again involved in a feud which was about retribution,” he said.

“It would seem maybe you have learned nothing from your time in custody … it would seem you are not prepared to change.”

Mr Fahey sentenced Goulding to 11 months jail, reduced to four after taking into account the time he spent in custody and on home detention.

“Your offending this time did not have the same disastrous consequences as your last serious offending, but it could have resulted in injury or worse to many, including the public,” he said.

Mr Fahey said he wasn’t convinced but was prepared to give Goulding a chance to change and suspended the four months on a $200, two-year good behaviour bond.
