A little more than a year after they poured their first brew, a northern suburbs franchise of a national favourite bubble tea brand will close its doors for good.
In a heartfelt letter posted inside the store, the owners of Chatime on Prospect Rd, Prospect, have announced their imminent closure.
The letter is addressed to “all our amazing customers” and explains the team “regret” to inform customers the store’s last day open will be Sunday.
“It has been our absolute pleasure being a part of this community over the past 15 months, and on behalf of our team we would like to sincerely thank you for your patronage and support,” the letter reads.
“Speaking of our team, we couldn’t have made it as far as we did without the hard work, dedication and support we received from within.
“We were lucky to be blessed with an amazing young crew and we can’t wait to see what they get up to next – the future is bright if our team is any indication!”
The team wish their customers “all the best” and are hopeful they continue to support “the next shop that takes our place”.
A photo of the letter was published in the local Prospect community group and many commenters expressed they were “devo” to hear the store was closing.
One person wrote “Oh no … My son and his friends LOVE going to Chatime after school … It’s their ‘thing’ … I’ll tell them they better get there this week for one last bubble tea …”
A second wrote they would have “very disappointed little ones! They love Chatime.”
Others took to the comments to express their concerns over “so many” businesses around Adelaide closing down.
There is no public confirmation of a new tenant for the site, but some mentioned a potential waffle house, or tagged dessert bar brands to invite them in.
Chatime’s closure comes after Jetty Rd icon Cardone’s announced it would shut on Wednesday amid Adelaide’s dire hospitality crisis, and Strathalbyn cafe Hammer N Tongs closed on Sunday, owing $400,000.
The Little Banksia Tree, Enzo’s Ristorante, the Edinburgh Castle, Folklore Cafe, Morris Bakery, Red Square, and Lost in a Forest have closed while Big Shed Brewing is in administration and battling to keep its doors open.
Adelaide queer bar My Lover Cindy is battling for survival and popular wester suburbs cafe Karma and Crow is moving to a new site after a “very very tough time” financially.
