From mouth-watering Wagyu beef to top-quality lamb chops, there’s a lot to love about our local butchers.
And with the summer school holidays still in full swing, there’s no better time to support these small businesses.
We asked you to tell us who Adelaide’s best butcher is and more than 5500 of you voted.
Windsor Meats in Malvern took the top spot not only for the east/inner south/hills area, but overall.
Co-owner Sam Burt, who runs the butchery alongside Lou Zammit, says winning the title is fitting since the store is celebrating 30 years this year.
“It’s nice to be recognised by our customers,” Mr Burt says.
“Over the last 30 years we have gotten to know our customers personally and we have built those relationships over a long time.
“It’s about the social experience as well as buying quality meat.”
The butchery supplies its customers with mostly South Australian produce ranging from lamb and pork to veal and game meats.
Mr Burt, who is a passionate advocate for small business, says it’s important to support your local butcher.

“The advantage of going to a butcher is we can provide that personalised service,” he says.
“Someone can walk in today and say they want something specific and we can do it for them.
“You can’t get that in a supermarket.”
Mr Burt is grateful for Windsor Meats’ recognition in The Messenger’s poll which, he says, shines a spotlight on “the little guys”.
“What’s been great about this poll is that it’s recognising local butchers who might otherwise go under the radar a bit, so I want to say thank you to The Messenger on behalf of all independent butcher shops.”
The Adelaide’s Best Butchers poll is part of The Messenger’s monthly poll series to find the best of the best in Adelaide.
