From weddings, milestone birthdays and even just a night out, makeup artists are part of some of the most important events of your lives.

So we asked you to tell us who Adelaide’s best makeup artist is and more than 2200 of you voted.

Adelaide Arcade based Lili Karamalikis won the most votes overall and says after close to a decade in the industry, it’s this type of recognition that makes all the hard work worth it.

“I honestly put my heart and soul into makeup and always want people to feel as good as they can, so to know that it’s actually coming through it makes me really happy,” Miss Karamalikis, 25, says.

The Tennyson makeup artist started doing makeup for friends in high school and decided to train at Colour Cosmetica after realising how much she enjoyed making people happy with makeup.

As a teenager she never expected to be able to turn her passion for makeup into a full-time job.

“When I first started it was almost unheard of to have a full-time job as a freelancer without working at a makeup counter and it just wasn’t really a thing,” she says.

“It’s crazy how much busier it’s become for people to have their makeup done for a special event compared to what it was 10 years ago.

“Especially the older generation would do their own makeup on their wedding day and now people get their makeup done to go out for a nice dinner or into town on a Friday or Saturday night.

“But I think whatever makes people feel good about themselves can only be a good thing.”

The Adelaide’s Best Makeup Artist poll is part of The Messenger’s monthly poll series which recognises local businesses excelling in their fields.
