Lana Bootes from Femme Aesthetics has been named South Australia’s best eyelash technician for the second time after taking the crown in 2022.
The 28-year-old opened her business in 2018 after leaving the comfort of her retail job and overcoming her personal anxieties.
“After taking a leap of faith and quitting retail my beauty business boomed and I knew I was in the right career path,” Ms Bootes said.
“As a shy person, being perceived and putting myself out there was difficult but it was worth it and it’s what has helped me enormously in becoming more unapologetically myself and being outgoing.”
Femme Aesthetics has over 3.5k followers on Instagram, with client reviews heaping praise on Lana’s lash work.
“Femme aesthetics aim is to be an inclusive, refreshing and peaceful environment for all clients,” Ms Boots said.
“A client has described it recently as a ‘sensory dream’.”
The Glenelg-based businesswoman said the flexible working hours, ability to work from home and “lovely clients” are what keep her motivated in a competitive industry.
Along with her beauty services, Ms Bootes has recently launched an online beginner lash extension course.
“It makes me so excited to be able to give other like-minded people the skills to be able to thrive in such a creative and rewarding industry,” she said.
“Being able to empower women with the skills to be fully self sufficient by teaching them how to become a lash technician (is the best part of my job).”
