From starting out in her bedroom to being surrounded by like-minded boss women, South Australia’s best lash technician is now revealing what makes her business tick.
Alana Bootes, owner of Femme Aesthetics in Morphett Vale, said the business had gone from strength to strength in the past five years.
“Dad was the most sceptical in the beginning but him and mum have been so supportive this whole time,” Ms Bootes said.
“When I started I was just in my bedroom and every time I had a client I would be busy cleaning my room so no one felt like they would be in my bedroom.”
Since those days, Ms Boots has watched the industry and the beauty standard shift from being a ‘vain’ product and turning into a self care routine.
“It makes people feel more confident and helps people put themselves out there,” she said.
“I specialise in the big volumes, crazy glitter and colours and I just love being able to help people be able to express themselves in different ways.”
“Coming out of Covid people saw the value of putting time into themselves and they really missed the experience.”
Now busy working six days a week to ensure all of her clients are feeling the best they possibly can, Ms Bootes believes she cracked the secret recipe to running a successful business.
“You don’t have to be the best you just need to show your clients that you care,” she said.
“Even winning this doesn’t mean that I am the best but it shows that I have built one of the most loyal clienteles and they feel really valued.
“I’ve only just learnt that it’s also okay to say no which a lot of people don’t when they first start out because there’s alway something on.”
