Breakfast show: Erin Phillips and Mark Soderstrom, back on January 11
All eyes will be on Crows AFLW superstar Erin Phillips, as she makes her full-time breakfast debut next month, replacing longtime co-host Jodie Oddy.
They are big shoes to fill, with Oddy and Soderstrom regularly at the top of the FM radio ratings during their decade-long run. But there were signs of ratings decline in the past 12 months, with Mix 102.3 slipping behind Nova 919’s brekkie show earlier this year.
So it wasn’t a complete shock to see Oddy – who was out of contract at the end of 2020 – pull the pin in November, with rumours the station were looking to freshen up their early morning line-up.
Phillips was the logical replacement after a strong showing while filling in for Oddy (who was on maternity leave) earlier this year, though former Seven News presenter Jessica Adamson must have also come under consideration.
Ultimately, Phillips’ stature in Adelaide was too much to ignore, and the beloved Crows co-captain will look to juggle her new role as the 2021 AFLW season kicks off on January 28.
Nationally, high-profile media personality Kate Langbroek will return to the airwaves alongside Yumi Stynes and Monty Dimond on Mix’s 3pm Pick-Up afternoon show, which will again be heard in Adelaide.
Langbroek, who previously co-hosted ARN’s national drive show with Dave Hughes, is back after a two-year stint in Italy and replaces Rebecca Judd.

Drivetime: Rowey’s Sports Show, back on January 18
Weekend breakfast: Jeremy Cordeaux, starting on January 23
FIVEaa’s long history of drivetime duos has come to an end with Stephen Rowe going solo on their weekday sports show.
It’s a huge move for the station, who have put their faith in the passionate, popular – and sometimes polarising – broadcaster. Ex-Crow Rowey will be joined by Leith Forrest in the anchor role with Sam Tugwell as co-producer.
Former co-host Mark Bickley was a casualty of COVID – as was the show’s anchor Jarrod Walsh – in a tough year for the media industry but the Crows dual-premiership captain will still be a regular on the program, and continue as a commentator on AFL match days.
Meanwhile, evening talkback king and radio icon Jeremy Cordeaux has decided on a change of timeslot, switching to weekend breakfast.
Station news director Matthew Pantelis will move into the night-time chair in a welcome opportunity for the veteran newsman who’s been with FIVEaa for almost 25 years.

Drivetime: Kate, Tim and Joel, back on January 18
It’s been a dream start for former triple j pair Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton. They took over the early morning timeslot in January and just nine months later, their show was crowned the top-rating FM breakfast program in town.
Their ratings cooled off by the end of the year but they still remain well-placed to build on their audience in 2021.
Elsewhere, there was a big change to Nova’s national drivetime show – which is heard in Adelaide – with Aussie funnyman Joel Creasey joining Kate Richie and Tim Blackwell in September, replacing Marty Sheargold.
The sudden change didn’t go down too well with loyal listeners at first but the feedback has turned positive with the colourful Creasey gradually winning over the fans.

hit107 (the station went back to the future and rebranded)
Breakfast show: Bec, Cosi & Lehmo, back on January 18
Radio changes don’t come much bigger than a station rebranding – and that’s just what happened this year to Southern Cross Austereo’s hit107, which reverted back to SAFM in late July.
The move has been warmly received by listeners, with the station making ground in the overall ratings after a slow start to 2020.
Comedian and radio veteran Anthony ‘Lehmo’ Lehmann also made a return to SA’s airwaves this year, rejoining his old stomping ground on their new-look breakfast show alongside Rebecca Morse and Andrew ‘Cosi’ Costello. The trio slowly made some inroads in the tough brekkie timeslot in the second half of the year.
Next year, listeners will get an extra hour of The Project co-host Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little’s drivetime show which will be extended to 6pm, followed by an hour-long highlights package of Dave Hughes, Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan’s new Sydney breakfast program, The Morning Crew.

Breakfast show: Ali Clarke, back on January 18
It’s steady as she goes at ABC, with no major on-air changes and presenters Ali Clarke, Jules Schiller, Peter Goers, David Bevan and Sonya Feldhoff all returning to the airwaves next year.
Clarke went from strength-to-strength in the breakfast timeslot, finishing the year in clear top spot after losing the September survey to main rivals, FIVEaa’s David Penberthy and Will Goodings.
ABC Radio National will launch a new Saturday afternoon show presented by podcaster/broadcaster Marc Fennell, which will begin on Saturday January 30 at 1pm.
At triple j, Bryce Mills and Ebony Boadu will take over their breakfast program in January after Sally Coleman and Erica Mallett abruptly quit in November, just a year after succeeding Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton.
Boadu is an accomplished DJ who has performed at Falls Festival and Splendour In The Grass while Mills has been hosting triple j Weekend Arvos.
Triple M
In
Marty Sheargold
Breakfast show: Roo and Ditts, back on January 18
It was an excellent year for Roo and Ditts, aka Triple M’s breakfast duo Mark Ricciuto and Chris Dittmar.
Now into their sixth year in the timeslot, the sports-focused pair turned a fifth-place finish at the end of 2019 into equal first spot on the FM dial – alongside Mix 102.3 – by the final radio ratings survey of 2020.
Bernie Vince’s addition to The Rush Hour drivetime program, alongside Andrew Jarman, also appears to be paying dividends, with the former Crow helping Triple M close the gap with FIVEaa in the battle of the daily sports shows.
Elsewhere, former Nova presenter Marty Sheargold has made the move across to Triple M, replacing Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy on Melbourne’s breakfast show.
An hour-long highlights package of The Marty Sheargold Show will air in Adelaide daily from 2.30pm, followed by Kennedy Molloy and then The Rush Hour.

Breakfast show: Breakfast with Kane and Hayesy, back on January 18
The 24/7 sports radio station will keep fans entertained over summer with exclusive live coverage of the Australia v India Test series and the Big Bash T20 competition.
Broadcasting doyen Gerard Whateley headlines the Test commentary team, and he’ll be joined by Anthony Hudson, Matt White, Damien Fleming and Simon Katich, while Dwayne Russell and Andy Maher will spearhead the daily BBL coverage.
Locally, SA breakfast pair Kane Cornes and Andrew Hayes are growing a loyal audience after two years in the gig, with their Breakfast with Kane and Hayesy podcast the state’s number one radio breakfast show podcast in July.
