Talkback radio legend Jeremy Cordeaux is retiring from his FIVEaa Evening show presenter role.

Instead the 75-year-old veteran broadcaster will host the AM station’s Weekend Breakfast program on Saturday and Sunday mornings from next year for a “change of lifestyle”.

Cordeaux, who began his career in 1962 at Sydney station 2GB as an errand boy for John Laws, has been a ratings winner for FIVEaa.

In April, in the second radio ratings survey results for the year, his popular Court Of Public Opinion old-school talkback show gained a whopping 8.2 share points to reach 20.9 as the No1 program in the Evening timeslot.

Not that being in top spot was anything new for Cordeaux - it’s a position he has been in all year and throughout 2019.

In fact, the only time Confidential can recall Cordeaux not being Adelaide’s top rating evenings presenter was in the first survey for 2018 when he was temporarily toppled by ABC Adelaide’s Peter Goers.

“I want to thank the station for their support throughout my decision, and for providing me with this wonderful opportunity to reach a new audience and continue to journey with those that have already joined me on the way,” Cordeaux said in a statement released by FIVEaa on Twitter.

FIVEaa’s news director of 15 years, Matthew Pantelis, who has been at the station for 25 years, will take over as the Evening show presenter.

He will start in the role from January 18. Cordeaux will be Weekend Breakfast host from January 23.
