Who owns Australia’s biggest farms 2025: 200 stations and their owners

Australia is filled with huge farming properties, some the size of a small country. Here we reveal who owns the nation’s 200 largest properties.

Australia’s trade agreement with the UAE benefits farmers in a way one with the EU could not

Throughout northern and central Australia vast pastoral stations define much of the landscape and are the grazing home to millions and millions of cattle, sheep and goats.

A series of pastoralist families own huge portfolios of farmland, and in Australia, it is Viv Oldfield and Donny Costello’s Crown Point Pastoral Company who lead the way.

Their portfolio spans more than nine million hectares – larger than Tasmania and more than twice the size of Switzerland, thanks to the 1.65 million-hectare Clifton Hills property and 1.335 million-hectare Innamincka Station, both of which are in South Australia.

The Williams Cattle Company can claim the title of the owner of Australia’s largest farm with the 2.3677 million-hectare Anna Creek Station near Coober Pedy, SA.

Ownership of Australia’s largest farms has remained relatively stable throughout the past year with only a handful of the biggest properties changing hands.

The Shahin family office, the Peregrine Corporation emerged as the buyer of the 408,000ha Aileron Station in central Australia, marking their first step into the nation’s agricultural sector.

Elsewhere, a deal between Andrew ‘Twiggy’ Forrest, via his ASX-listed Fortescue Metals Group’s Fortescue Future Industries and Jumbuck Pastoral, for Australia’s largest sheep station, Rawlinna, fell over.

The one million-hectare station in WA is now on the market.

Retail billionaire Brett Blundy is also still trying to sell the one million-hectare Walhallow-Creswell Downs station near Tennant Creek in the NT, plus the million-hectare Beetaloo Aggregation, tipped to be worth about $550 million combined.
