Mackinnon family’s Rocklands at Balmoral for sale
A grazing and cropping property in the Western District has been listed for sale – after it was purchased by a family in 2016.
A grazing and cropping property at Balmoral in Victoria’s Western District has been listed for sale with an asking price of $11m-$12m.
The 1066ha property, Rocklands, is owned by the Mackinnon family and will be sold via expressions of interest.
The Mackinnons purchased the property in 2016 and have run Merino sheep and a small area of cropping.
Hamish Mackinnon told The Weekly Times the versatile nature of the country, its high percentage of arable land and a secure source of water meant it could be used for grazing or cropping or a mix of both.
“While we have run Merinos, the ability to access the Glenelg River for unlimited stock and domestic supply means it is one of the properties in the district that can run cattle without risk,” Mr Mackinnon said.
The estimated carrying capacity is 12,000DSE, or about 5200 Merino ewes in a self-replacing flock with young sheep following on, or 6000 mature ewes.
Stock water is supplied from the Glenelg River to six, 20,000-litre tanks which sit at the top of a hill and supply troughs in each of the paddocks.
Rocklands is being marketed by Nick Adamson from Charles Stewart and Co.
It comes as the landmark Western District property Buln Gherin at Stockyard Hill recently sold for $35m.
The 1882ha mixed farming property, with views of Mt Cole and Mt Langi Ghiran, was listed for sale at the end of May with an asking price of more than $28m.
Buln Gherin had been owned by the Carpenter family and was purchased by three farmers from the local area.
