Sutcliffe family sell farming aggregation at Corowa auction for $9.9m

A family farm in southern NSW has changed hands for the first time in 70 years after selling to strong demand. Read the details.

A Riverina family farm has been sold under the hammer, with the Sutcliffe family relinquishing their 70-year ownership of the land.

A local buyer snapped up the Courtines, Windmere and Baileys aggregation near Oaklands, NSW, today for $9.9m.

There was a race of six registered bidders for the 900ha of tightly-held farmland, with the winning bid settling at $10,915.10 per ha.

Elders Real Estate Albury agent Reg Coulston held the auction and said the demand for the Oakland farm was intense.

“There was strong interest throughout the campaign,” he said

“There was an excellent level of interest, with mostly all the inquiries coming from local interest.”

After 70 years of ownership, vendors the Sutcliffe family decided it was time to put their operation on the market.

The Oaklands farm, located on Baileys Rd, was marketed as a versatile cropping and livestock property.

The aggregations was offered as a whole, with Courtines (488ha), Windmere (260ha) and Baileys (160) all going under the hammer.

Key features of the farm include a 200-megalitre West Corurgan irrigation licence with 158ha laid out for irrigation. Grain, canola and pulses are the main crops produced.

A three-bedroom home with renovated country kitchen, adjoining meals area and lounge was also part of the sale.

Further north, a Temora district record for land prices was broken after a bidding war for a 245ha cropping farm.

Ray White Parkes agent Oscar Freeman said there was fierce bidding before a local farming family secured the deal for $4.35m.

“Bidding opened at $3.5m and there was a bidding war with the $4.35m price tag breaking the district record paid for land,” he said.

“Three neighbours all bid at auction and the purchaser was a local farming family looking to expand their existing holding.”

The two landmark sales comes after a 1230ha farm near Berrigan was placed on the market, which could fetch as much as $36m at auction.
