‘Three meals of wholefoods’: A Home & Away star’s day on a plate
Lynne McGranger is an actor on Home & Away. The 71-year-old shares her day on a plate.
5.20am A cup of tea.
6.50am A coffee on arrival at work.
7.45am Breakfast, brought from home, is a slice of protein toast, avocado and a boiled egg. During a mid-morning costume change, I have a handful of almonds and cashews.
12.30 pm A lemon pepper chicken fillet, kaleslaw, beetroot and avocado, plus a small flat white coffee. I have a ricepaper roll a little later for afternoon tea.
7.45pm Chilli con carne with guacamole, steamed broccolini and zucchini. Two squares of chocolate.
Dr Joanna McMillan says
Top marks for… Three balanced meals of nutrient-rich wholefoods with minimal processing. The nuts make a perfect snack, providing heart-healthy fats and magnesium, while the ricepaper roll is light on kilojoules and usually full of vegies, plus a protein.
If you keep eating like this you’ll… Deplete your bones of calcium as daily requirements jump for women over 70. Dairy foods are one of the richest sources and you do have milk in your coffee. However, you need at least four serves of dairy or alternative calcium-rich foods to meet your needs.
Why don’t you try… Adding feta cheese to breakfast or making a smoothie with milk or calcium-fortified soy milk as a snack. Add a generous dollop of unsweetened Greek yoghurt to your chilli bowl. Include fish with edible bones such as sardines regularly.
Lynne McGranger is touring NSW and Victoria from May 28 in The Grandparents Club.
