With old-timers sunning themselves on the verandah in front of vintage Reschs posters by day and assorted tribes of local youth gathering on weekend nights, the one constant at the tastefully restored Star Hotel is its excellent food - much locally sourced, such as the Nambucca River oysters and Coffs Harbour flake fillets. The specials blackboard lords it over the printed menu, which is reserved for a few staples and the kids' options. The seafood combo (fish, prawns, squid, Balmain bug, chips and salad) is the standout dish, and the whole fried flathead every bloke's favourite.
