Star Hotel
16/20
Contemporary$$
In prime position facing the Nambucca River, The Star combines classic elegance with a clever renovation. Monday night means schnitzel: there are six varieties, with a beer thrown in for $12. If you're not eating schnitzels you're not hard done by, though. Amazing local oysters are followed by a fistful of slow-roasted lamb rump with tzatziki, Greek salad and flatbread and an autumn risotto of pumpkin, mushrooms and spinach topped with roasted pinenuts and shavings of authentic parmesan - the only vego dish. For dessert, a rhubarb and strawberry cheesecake tart with fair dinkum double cream and ice-cream beckons.
