Mona Vale Hotel

Modern Australian$$
Pizzas (ricotta, roast pesto and basil or pepperoni, anchovies, olives, ground beef and mushrooms) and steaks have long been the drawcard at the hotel's Plantation restaurant. Now the menu informs us that the beef (eye fillet $31.95, grass-fed rump $24.90) comes from an Angus-Hereford Shorthorn cross from Wagga Wagga, while the rib on the bone is sourced from Nolan's Private Selection in Gympie. Red duck curry, pork belly braised in Asian greens and pear and parmesan salad illustrate the target audience. One gripe: smokers now dominate the Balinese-style garden area.
