Down a secret alleyway and with no sign outside, Mary’s, with its pubby fit-out, seems designed to confuse. But hang on. Craft beers, organic wines and some pretty schmick champagne? Yep, this is serious drinks territory. It’s also high-class burger land, with some of the best in the biz. There’s not much choice - cheeseburger, Maryburger, ’shroomburger - but the fixings are good (house-smoked brisket, all that) and the buns are beautiful. The other attraction is chunky, dark-fried crumb-y hunks of chook and, oh, the Mary’s mash, drowned in a full-on chicken gravy. No wonder there’s always a queue.
