Libertine

Libertine feels a little louche, particularly at night, accented by the moody lighting, japanned floor boards, burnished gold wallpaper and chandeliers. Nab a candlelit corner table, cosy up to a loved one (or potential loved one) and dip into the share plate menu. Betel leaves wrapped around bits of prawn, coconut, lime juice and chilli will stimulate the palate for the thank god-for-even-numbers mushroom dumplings. So simple in pretty pleated wrappers but so good. Clash your crimson chopsticks over slices of rich pork belly in coconut caramel with sweet potato then prepare for things to get positively down and dirty with the arrival of a plate of unctuous, sticky, tender ribs in plum sauce served on a bed of bean shoots and tiny shreds of coconut with Vietnamese mint and cucumber. Service, if you notice while glaring at each other over the ribs, can be charming or scatty, it's a waiter lucky dip.
