Black Star Pastry
Contemporary
Let it be known: there is no finer cake in the inner west, possibly Sydney, and the eager beavers in the out-the-door queue know it. They like to have their cake and Instagram it too, which is fair enough, provided there's any elbow room. The strawberry, watermelon and rose cream signature stack is prettier (and tastier) in reality than any picture, and not quite bite-sized Persian fig, quince and orange cakes are little hexagons of heavenliness. The coffee's no slacker, either, and a tangy Little Marionette long black ($3.50) in one hand and lamb shank pie in the other makes the lack of seating even more of an issue.
