The General Food Store
Contemporary$$
It’s fitting that the General Food Store is in Emerald, as it is the region’s culinary jewel. The austere yet stylish space (it’s a husband/chef, wife/designer venture) works as a blank canvas for creative dishes with names to match. There’s ‘I See Red’ (salad of roasted beetroot, red cabbage, red onion, toasted walnuts, sultanas, mint, Persian feta and pomegranate dressing) or, for breakfast, try to ‘Grab a Granny’ (granola of Granny Smith, rhubarb, pistachio and sheep’s milk yoghurt). It’s a playful approach, but the flavour and quality of the food confirms that these guys aren’t mucking around.
