A few years ago Snow Pony rode into Whitehorse Road and rescued the good people of Deepdene from cafe deprivation. Its scuffed white walls, terrazzo floor and mural-sized photo lend it inner-city cred. Its spot at the heart of a comfortable suburb brings it patrons galore. This community hub serves basic Breakfasts such as Noisette fruit toast and carefully prepared coffee, and show ponies such as a banana-bread stack tricked-up with mascarpone and sweet, jammy berry compote. At lunch, gourmet piadinas (organic lamb meatballs with tomato sugo and spinach) share table space with substantial salads (nicoise or Moroccan beetroot).
