Melbourne's most delicious dishes to eat this week
Updated , first published
A quartet of ridiculous sandwiches and a diabolical dessert. If you're going to fall into something this early week in May, make it outrageous.
Dave: a Lune and Attica collaboration
Following a week of mysterious Instagram posts featuring pantyhose and native fruits raining through the air, Lune Croissanterie's Kate Reid and Attica's Ben Shewry have unveiled an unholy alliance in a limited edition croissant-cake-pudding… thing. They've called it Dave, and it is a large format croissant pastry base, loaded with finger lime jam, bejewelled with native fruits and sloshed with a significant lash of custard cream. It's $70, in limited supply and serves six game souls when ordered with other Attica at Home dishes. attica.com.au
Napier Quarter's anchovy and egg panino
Chef Eileen Horsnell cooks many incredible things at this tiny Fitzroy bluestone, but her rye bread loaded with dijon mayonnaise, premium Olasagasti anchovies, boiled egg and salsa verde has become her calling card. And now the bar has reopened as a wine store and provedore (get those anchovies as singles, premium tinned tomatoes and sourdough that demonstrates why you should leave it to the pros), you can get her trademark as a panino on ciabatta. They're also selling a slim range of home-style dishes to-go.

Anchovy's khao jee pâté
During lockdown, Anchovy's chef-owner Thi Le has flipped her contemporary Vietnamese menu to cook Laotian and she may never look back. During the week that means gaeng mak eu, vegetables stewed in a pork bone and tamarind broth, barbecued ox tongue and funky fragrant pork and herb sausages with tamarind relish. But on weekends from 10.30am-1pm, it's all about khao jee pâté, Lao's version of bahn mi: crusty bread stuffed with Le's house-made pâté, pickles, mayo and rotating proteins. Last week that was the sausages, or pine mushrooms, grilled out the front of the Bridge Street restaurant. Go early, they sell out.

Pinchy's at Home
Lobster rolls and Veuve Cliquot in your tracksuit? It's a possibility now that Melbourne's rooftop champagne and seafood bar is back. Executive chef Pierre Khodja's menu has been adapted for autumn lock-ins. Beyond rolls, there is mac and cheese, a fiery fisherman's stew and a seafood bastilla (read: pie) packed with mussels, calamari and rockling. Naturally, you can add a bottle of fizz if you pick-up orders.

Pho Nom returns
A light in the darkness for those floundering in the silent CBD. Chef Jerry Mai has reopened her Vietnamese pocket rocket Pho Nom in Collins street. That means the legendary fried chicken banh mi, and sustainable beef and chicken pho, made with free-range ingredients, are back on the cards. There is delivery, but head in to show your support.
