The modern oriental decor of Embassy XO might be subtle, but the food isn't. Expect punchy, pan-Asian flavoured dishes based on premium local produce. There's plenty to amuse the palate and interest the eye. Dumplings, come in pork; fried with chiu chow and black vinegar dipping sauce or lightly steamed Moreton Bay bug with XO sauce and lime. Chicken ribs surprise; served with chilli buttermilk they are juicy and succulent while crisp rice-crusted locally caught snapper is cooked to moist perfection. Other menu contenders include tender beef cheeks braised in rock salt and soy, and a hot smoked kingfish salad. While the Hong Kong peanut butter French toast missed the mark, steamed chocolate buns with a hint of chilli and raspberry dipping sauce will leave you weak at the knees. Start the evening with a drink at the bar overlooking Duke Street and take advantage of the restaurant's extensive wine list and staff recommendations.
